| We are a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to provide instruction and training for competitive and recreational opportunities in the sport of rowing to physically and intellectually challenged individuals. Participation in physical activities is essential to prevent people with disabilities from surrendering themselves to confinement. Participants gain self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment.

| The underlying aim of the FES Rowing project is to develop new technology that enables paraplegics to participate in a mainstream activity for health, leisure and sport. Over the next few months we will be adding fuller detail information on the project's history, collaborators, research and development team members, FES rowers, sponsors and our future plans.

| This page will serve as a source of information for O.A.R.C. Oxford Adaptive Rowing was set up in 1998 as part of an ambitious new project to bring British disabled rowing up to date. We aim to provide high quality facilities and coaching for both adaptive and integrative rowing for athletes with physical and learning disabilities in the Oxford Area. |
| Adaptive Rowing provides athletes with a physical or intellectual impairment the opportunity to be active on the water, get involved in a fun and friendly club environment, and participate in a variety of competitions from club regattas through state and national championships to world championships and Paralympic games. Adaptive Rowing is integrated into the main rowing program in Australia and internationally. It was introduced as a Paralympic sport at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and therefore provides athletes with the opportunity to achieve at the highest level.

| Mark Baiada, who sponsors the adaptive-rowing event Bayada Regatta in Philadelphia, overheard our conversation and offered Brown sponsorship for his participation in the Catalina Crossing?the 32-mile rowing event from Marina Del Ray, Calif., to Catalina Island. Brown's answer went from no to yes, and it was a done deal. |
