DAVID SEGAL - DRUMMER EXTRAORDINAIRE! USA
Hard work and determination led a young boy affected by debilitating Arthrogryposis to fight tirelessly to become a highly successful… drummer! David recalls stopping in the schkool band room one day, where he was intrigued by, “…these far-out woodwind instruments.” Soon after, he went to visit a friend, who had a snare drum and cymbal set up in his house. David attempted the intro of U2’s, “Sunday, Bloody Sunday”, and was immediately hooked. Without dwelling on his capsized dreams of becoming a pro tennis player, he thought to himself, “This is something I want to do really badly!”

PARENTING FROM A WHEELCHAIR: YEAR ONE OF THE EWAN EXPERIENCE USA
Of the many unknowns that awaited us on the other end of Kelly’s pregnancy, Ewan’s name was (finally!) the first to be resolved. Like all first-time parents, we had a thousand questions. My concerns about being a parent with a disability weren’t related to anything existential — like, what will he think about having a dad in a wheelchair? Or, what will his friends think? I knew enough fathers through wheelchair rugby to understand that to a baby, you’re not the wheelchair guy, you’re just dad. But some of those dads could also count the number of times they’d changed a diaper on one hand. I have C7-8 motor-complete quadriplegia, which manifests in weak hands and poor trunk stability, and that was where my concerns were: How long was he going to tolerate my floppy-fingered fumbling with a diaper? How would I carry him around and get him into and out of a car seat?

WHEELCHAIR WANDERINGS - SOLO WHEELCHAIR BACKPACKING AUST
After I had my paraplegic spinal injury at age 18 I thought my travelling dreams were over and so focused on my career. After years of study I finally became a veterinarian. While being a vet is a huge passion of mine, I felt slightly jealous of my friends who were solo backpacking around Europe for months on end! I thought I would never be able to achieve this dream because of my disability. However one day I woke up thought ‘dammit’, quit my job and bought my ticket and thus the goal to backpack solo in a wheelchair was born. I started writing this blog so that I could share things I found useful travelling in a wheelchair, places that I found accessible, places that were not and anything else I learned along the way.I hope that if you are a person with a disability wanting to travel (solo or with friends, backpacking or in hotels) that my story can help and motivate you to do so and prove that travelling is not just limited to the able bodied – anything is possible. Happy travelling. Caitlin

REEL KEEN POWERCHAIR FISHING AUST
I’ve always loved to fish since I was a youngster but of course that became difficult after an accident over 30 years ago. I knew that there had to be a way to fish again. A lot of thought and several prototypes have resulted in the Reel Keen rod holder that you see today. I’ve tested it extensively and refined it to the point where I’m confident that it will give you the freedom to go fishing that it’s given me. With this rod holder I’ve fished from piers and from boats and caught fish up to 9kg (20lb) in weight and I’m sure I’ll be able to do even more with it. So turn your powerchair into a game chair in just minutes and rediscover fishing. Robert
