| Scroll down the page on the above website to find the following story - "At age 19, Norman was in the second year of a contract with a Midwestern tire company and was paid to live his dream, racing non-wing sprint cars. However, during summer 1970, Norman was in a racing accident that resulted in a C5/6 spinal-cord injury. Due to his training as a medic he was painfully aware that his life's dream had just ended.
After moving to San Diego, old dreams resurfaced and Norman built and ran a dune buggy in the desert, earned his pilots license flying sailplanes and started dreaming about racing again". |

| Put a quad bike, ATV, a mountain bike and a go-cart in a blender and the result would be the Boma 7. The chair was named after the 1980’s Raleigh Bomber bicycle and unlike some, this chair is a ‘No Compromise’ design that does not pretend to be a jack of all trades, it was designed specifically for serious off-road use and thats exactly where it excels – Using the Boma 7 chair is a very unique and exciting experience.
If you are a conventional wheelchair user you can access the Boma seat by sliding transfer; simply remove the handlebar release, bring your chair right next to the seat and slide across. It is often easier getting into a Boma than into a car! Hoisted transfers can also be made quickly and easily as no frame obstructions.
Once in the Boma you will feel very secure between the rear wheels, and the long low centre of gravity seating position is extremely comfortable. You will get a great feeling of being in the environment thanks to the open handlebars or joy stick setups. Riding in the local park, forest or on the beach, the feeling of freedom is truly exhilarating and we should also mention that NO chair attracts admiration and attention like the Boma! |

| When I lost the use of my legs, I thought I had also lost the wilderness in my life. With a concentrated effort of creativity and flexibility, along with a good dose of humility, I found my way back into camping again. After years of experimentation and adaptation, I finally found a set-up that works for me. Backpacking might no longer be possible (although I still haven't given up on the idea of wheelchair backpacking), but camping near a car was definitely feasible. Yes, I was returning to car-camping! |
| We think the GRIT Freedom Chair is pretty darn great - after all, we invented it! Even so, we know that it may not be the right choice for everyone which is why we think it's so important to provide information on all the different options out there. As we mentioned when we created our Complete Guide to All Terrain Wheelchairs, it's usually easy to find detailed information online comparing and contrasting big ticket items - like a flat screen television or a mountain bike - but we've noticed that there's not a lot of that type of information out there for the different categories of wheelchair. Since we've got summertime on our minds, we thought a roundup of beach wheelchairs might be a useful thing to put together.
