| Put a quad bike, ATV, a mountain bike and a go-cart in a blender and the result would be the Boma 7. The chair was named after the 1980’s Raleigh Bomber bicycle and unlike some, this chair is a ‘No Compromise’ design that does not pretend to be a jack of all trades, it was designed specifically for serious off-road use and thats exactly where it excels – Using the Boma 7 chair is a very unique and exciting experience.
If you are a conventional wheelchair user you can access the Boma seat by sliding transfer; simply remove the handlebar release, bring your chair right next to the seat and slide across. It is often easier getting into a Boma than into a car! Hoisted transfers can also be made quickly and easily as no frame obstructions.
Once in the Boma you will feel very secure between the rear wheels, and the long low centre of gravity seating position is extremely comfortable. You will get a great feeling of being in the environment thanks to the open handlebars or joy stick setups. Riding in the local park, forest or on the beach, the feeling of freedom is truly exhilarating and we should also mention that NO chair attracts admiration and attention like the Boma! |

| Rowan Bowles regularly travels interstate to compete, and knowing that Tasmania has many excellent cycling courses, lobbied for one of the national competition rounds to be held in Tasmania. The event took place at Hagley on 6 February 2010 and was a great success. Rowan organised the entire event, from booking transport and accommodation for the competitors, to organising marshall cars and sponsors.
"The riders were very impressed with the circuit. It was definitely on par with what is on offer interstate." Handcyclists complete four laps of a 15km loop track, and get up to speeds of 35 kilometres per hour. Rowan is keen to extend Tasmania's involvement in the national competition, and hold a few races here each year.

| After his injury, Cole Hoodicoff never expected to be able to rip down a rugged mountain trail. That all changed when SCI BC Kootenays Peer Coordinator Josh Dueck invited the Castlegar teenager to a mountain bike camp.
Cole Hoodicoff had been down some hills in his 18 years. Down the Red Mountain ski hill that left him a T2 paraplegic at 11 years old. Down the rocky road of adjusting to teenage life with an SCI in small town BC.
Hoodicoff wasn’t thinking about any of that on a rainy day this past July, when he edged his way over the lip of the Spine, BC’s first purpose-built adaptive mountain-bike (aMTB) trail. Read on for more...
He had been invited to try adaptive mountain biking with a small group of SCI BC Peers. While he’d seen plenty of regular mountain biking videos of riders ripping down trails on two wheels with precision and style, he imagined that what he was about to try would be something much tamer.

| The trail has been designed for beginners and is focused on being "Adaptive Sports Accessible" where mountain hand trikes can be used by disabled riders. This trail offers many different challenges for a beginner to get introduced to trail riding: Short 1.1 mile loop allowing for many laps to practice, moderate switchback descents & climbs, a bermed turn, very subdued rock gardens, a short bridge crossing, etc(See trail photos). Minimal elevation change - total ascent per lap is 65ft. |
| Custom handcycles built specifically for quads/tetras. |
| The camp, held each year in early May when waterfalls are at their peak and park attendance is moderate, is the brainchild of Rick Mason, the cycling coordinator for Access Leisure. “I got the idea during a visit to Yosemite one spring after a heavy snow year promised spectacular waterfall displays,” says Mason, 58, in his 40th year as a C6-7 quadriplegic. “I brought my handcycle and found there are bike and walking trails throughout the valley floor, and it is the perfect way to explore the area.” |
| "On January 26, the grueling 10k through the streets of Sydney marked the beginning of this year's series as well as the city?s Australia Day celebrations. More than 40% of competing athletes were from countries other than Australia."
?Residents kept their eyes on countrywoman Louise Sauvage, who had won the race in her category eight times. In the Men?s division, Greg Smith, Australia?s premier road and track athlete, would strive for his first Oz Day 10k victory, going up against 2001 winner Ernst Van Dyk of South Africa. |
