| Kelly’s skiing accident happened on February 18, 2006 on the second day of the Williams College Carnival. Starting number 12, Kelly came over a knoll and caught an edge on an icy patch. She fought to stay in the course but her ski edge grabbed and she was catapulted off the trail, striking a lift tower stanchion. She severely damaged her spinal cord injury at the T 7-8 level, fractured 4 ribs, fractured a vertebra in her neck, and a collapsed a lung. Kelly underwent 10 hours of immediate surgery to re-align and stabilize her spine at the Berkshire Medical Center.
After her first 2 weeks in the hospital, Kelly was transported to Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver, Colorado, where she spent the next two and a half months undergoing rigorous rehabilitation for what would become her new life in a wheelchair. She left Craig ready to navigate life’s new challenges with the same tenacious spirit that had been the root of her prior athletic successes.
She works as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. |

| Speed skier and Paralympian gold medallist Michael Milton clocked more than 213 kilometres an hour to win the coveted title of the fastest Australian skier ever. When those accolades weren’t enough he trained his sights on the velodrome, giving himself just two years to learn how to cycle and compete in the Beijing Paralympics.
Michael’s world of extreme sport becomes all the more impressive when you learn he’s achieved these awards with just one leg after losing the other to bone cancer as a child. But just as he locked down his career as a legendary athlete – and found contentment at home – another extreme challenge appeared from a very unwelcome quarter.

Because my passion to do these sports is so big I started looking for a way to do my sports in an alternative way. The accident could not stop me from moving my borders. I find the most challenges in skiing and wakeboarding |

| Wintergreen Adaptive Skiing (WAS) traces its beginnings to 1984 when Vince Fiore, an adult amputee, received his first ski lesson from Michael Zuckerman, a ski instructor at Wintergreen Resort. Untrained in teaching adaptive skiing, but inspired by his experience with Mr. Fiore, that winter Mr. Zuckerman attended his first "Learn to Ski" clinic for individuals with disabilities at the Jack Frost Ski Area in Pennsylvania. Over the next decade, 200 individuals with disabilities received ski instruction at Wintergreen from Mr. Zuckerman on equipment acquired or fabricated to meet the needs of people with a wide array of disabilities. By the year 2005, over 650 disabled individuals from a tri-state area-for example, deaf or blind children, teens with autism or other cognitive deficits, adults recovering from disease or injury, those with paraplegia or quadriplegia as well as wounded veterans from the Iraq war-had been introduced to the sport of Alpine skiing.
