LEISURE AND OUTDOORS - HORSE RIDING
INDIVIDUALS ORGANISATIONS | Riding instructor Anne Skinner isn’t meant to be alive.
She spent years teaching children with disabilities the joy and therapeutic values of horse riding.
A freak car accident made her the first person to survive such extensive spinal and pelvic injuries. An Australian surgeon needed to invent a world-first metal bolt device to enable her just to walk again.
After a total of twenty operations and three months spent re-learning how to walk, Anne returned home and eventually, back into the saddle and back into competive riding.

She competed with the best in the industry and received a standing ovation from over 40,000 fans in AT&T Stadium and won over the hearts of America. Amberley has turned her tragedy into triumph and is inspiring all of America to Get Back on the Horse. |
| Having contracted a virus, Transverse Myelitis at just 14 months old, Natasha was left with permanent nerve damage, loss of balance and sensation and severe weakness in her legs. Having grown up in a ‘horsey’ family it was when Natasha was 9 that her physio recommended she applied to the local Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). Showing a natural talent and huge passion for the sport it was whilst watching the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games that she set herself the goal of one day becoming a gold medalist. Natasha’s childhood dream became a reality when she took her place on the podium in front of an impassioned home crowd at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. |
| After contracting meningococcal meningitis septicemia in 1996 I've slowly progressed around my horses. Both my legs were amputated, I have limited arm movement and strength, with no use or feeling in both hands or wrists, plus all my internal organs were damaged. In 2000 I began competing in dressage and Para Equestrian comp's with the Equestrian Federation Aust' for able-bodied riders, Riding for The Disabled Association Australia and since 2006 with The Federation Equestre Internationale. Since then I haven't looked back. |
