ARTS - CARTOONISTS
INDIVIDUALS | There's absolutely nothing funny about a quadriplegic in a wheelchair. Unless, of course, that person is John Callahan. For nearly a decade, this irreverent cartoonist has been shocking America with his own special brand of wicked humor. In the world of Callahan, nothing is sacred, nothing is taboo and nothing is funnier!

| Crippen is otherwise known as Dave Lupton, who goes under other alter-egos such as Sox from time to time.
Somewhat slowed down by having to use a wheelchair for a while, Dave found himself surrounded by ideas for cartooning based upon disability and disability related issues. It wasn’t long before the alter ego “Crippen” emerged and the rest, as they say, is history.
Within a few years Crippen had become the leading disabled cartoonist in the UK, working for the most part on the political edge of disability issues and rights, identifying the barriers that exist for Disabled people within our society whilst focusing on the humour (sometimes!) and the absurdity of many situations. |
| "Your site is great! I've used a wheelie for 6 years now through having ME/CFS. Last week i went to a gig, wheeled myself to the front, asked some ABs if I could stand between them to use the security barrier to support my weight. Then I danced my arse off. Their faces! I haven't been out of bed since, but hell, it was worth it. Thanks for showing the reality, insanity and fun of life for us dizabled (tis the same in UK). The strips have cheered me up while bed bound. Keep it up : )"
